B-Series Straight-Plate Roller Chain
The B-Series straight-plate roller chain is the workhorse of industrial conveying worldwide. Straight (flat) side plates distribute tensile load more evenly along the plate body than cranked-plate designs, delivering measurably higher fatigue life under continuous or cyclically loaded conveyor duty — a critical advantage on long-run packaging lines, elevator legs and mining plant drives.

All chains are produced from medium-carbon or alloy steel with precision-ground pins, case-hardened rollers and sintered bushings, and are available pre-lubricated or with optional surface treatments.
Double-pitch conveyor variants (C-prefix) share the same static tensile strength and articulation geometry as standard-pitch counterparts but reduce overall chain mass — a practical weight saving on slow-speed, long-centre conveyors.

How to Choose the Right B-Series Chain

Where B-Series Straight-Plate Chains Are Used
C10B–C20B simplex / duplex chains in food-processing, beverage bottling and packaging lines — preferred for low chordal vibration and easy lubrication access.
C16B–C28B straight-plate chains outperform cranked-plate in vertical duty because the flat plate resists the bending moment imposed by bucket attachment hardware.
C08B–C16B in grain auger drives, straw walker drives on combine harvesters, seed-drill metering mechanisms and round-baler plunger drives.
C08B–C12B precision chains in CNC bar feeders, automatic tool changers and pallet transfer systems where positional accuracy is demanded cycle-on-cycle.
C24B–C32B triplex chains handle extreme tensile demands of crushing and screening plant drives; shock loading service factor of 2.0 applied as standard in this sector.
Installation & Maintenance
Keep Your Chain Running Longer
Ευθυγραμμία
Shaft parallelism within 1 mm/m of centre distance. Sprocket faces co-planar within 0.5 mm. Misalignment is the single most common cause of premature B-series chain failure.
Initial Sag
Set sag to ~2% of centre distance for horizontal drives. Inclined or vertical drives: reduce to 1% or fit a spring-loaded tensioner to prevent strand jumping under load reversal.
Λάδωμα
ISO VG 100–150 mineral oil applied at the slack side where chain leaves the drive sprocket. Above 80 °C use synthetic or food-grade oil. In dusty environments, use penetrating oil — not heavy grease, which traps abrasive particles.
Wear Monitoring
Replace at 3% elongation (2% for precision drives). A C08B chain with 12.7 mm nominal pitch should be replaced once any 10-link section exceeds 130.8 mm. Never mix new links into a heavily worn αλυσίδα.
