Product Overview
The P11.5SS anti-sidebow push chain is a precision-engineered window actuation chain designed for motorised sliding windows and outward-opening window panels. With an 11.5 mm pitch and a minimum tensile strength of 5.5 kN, it delivers reliable linear actuation along curved or straight guide channels — driven by an electric motor or hydraulic cylinder.
Unlike standard roller chains, the P11.5SS is engineered to transmit compressive push forces through a curved path without lateral buckling. The chain is manufactured from high-quality alloy steel and finished with a zinc–nickel alloy electroplated coating, combining corrosion resistance with long-term dimensional stability — critical requirements for window systems exposed to outdoor humidity, condensation, and temperature cycling.

Note: All dimensions in millimetres. Q min = minimum ultimate tensile strength under static load per ISO test method. Chain is designed for push (compressive) actuation — tensile and push ratings differ; consult our engineering team for dynamic load calculations.
How Anti-sidebow Technology Works
The defining engineering feature of this chain is its bidirectional lateral-flex capability. The chain body is split into two sub-assemblies that articulate independently around two orthogonal axes — enabling controlled push through curved guide channels while resisting unintended buckling.
Load Rating Note
Due to the extended pin-bushing clearance required for lateral flex, the P11.5SS is rated for lower load levels than equivalent rigid roller chains of the same pitch. It is designed for window actuation forces — not for heavy conveyor or power-transmission duties. Contact our engineering team if working load requirements are near the rated tensile strength.
Typical Applications
Motorised Roof Lights & Skylights
12V / 24V DC motor-driven roof windows and clerestory panels in residential and commercial construction, including smart-home and BMS-integrated configurations.
Outward-opening Ventilation Panels
Industrial building facades, greenhouse side-wall panels, and curtain-wall ventilation systems where actuation follows a curved guide path.
Hydraulic Cylinder Drive Systems
Heavy window panels actuated by hydraulic cylinders pushing the chain through a box guide channel — common in industrial, agricultural, and commercial high-bay ventilation.
Smart Building Automation
Integration with Building Management Systems (BMS) for automated natural ventilation, CO₂-triggered window opening, and energy-efficient passive cooling strategies.
Sprocket Compatibility
The P11.5SS requires sprockets specifically dimensioned for the anti-sidebow link geometry — standard P11.5 sprockets for rigid roller chains are not interchangeable, as the lateral envelope of the anti-sidebow outer links requires wider tooth-space clearance.
| Sprocket Type | Recommended Environment | Corrosion Rating |
|---|---|---|
| Carbon steel, zinc-plated | Indoor / normal humidity | Πρότυπο |
| Stainless steel 304 / 316 | Coastal / high-humidity / marine-adjacent | ✓ Superior |
| Coated alloy steel | Outdoor industrial ventilation panels | Good |
Zinc–Nickel Anti-corrosion Coating
All P11.5SS chains are finished with a Zn–Ni alloy electroplate at approximately 85:15 zinc-to-nickel ratio. This formulation shifts the galvanic protection potential relative to standard zinc, delivering substantially better salt-spray performance:
The coating is applied after all machining operations, ensuring full coverage of pin shanks, bushing bores, and plate edges — the areas most vulnerable to crevice corrosion in window-frame environments. Suitable for coastal buildings, humid climates, greenhouses, and industrial spaces with mild chemical vapour exposure.
Our Manufacturing Capabilities
Roller-chain-manufacturers.com operates a complete in-house chain production line, from raw steel to finished and tested chain. Every P11.5SS unit passes dimensional and tensile verification before despatch. Key equipment and processes include:
