SB-sarjan sivujousiketjut 40SB 43SB 50SB 60SB 63SB 80SBSide bow roller chains are engineered for horizontal curved conveyor paths. Unlike conventional drive chains optimised purely for linear rigidity, SB series chains incorporate deliberate internal clearances and modified link-plate geometries that allow the chain to negotiate tight bends smoothly — eliminating the need for auxiliary transfer mechanisms, radius sprockets, or segmented conveyor sections.

Our range spans ANSI and British Standard series covering pitches from 9.525 mm (#06BSBF1) up to 38.100 mm (#C2062F6SB), with minimum bend radii from 300 mm to 1,100 mm and tensile strengths from 8.0 kN to 55.6 kN. Carbon steel is standard; stainless 304/316 and attachment-plate variants are available to order.

Bi-directional flex

Deflects left or right without preferential orientation — simplifies layout in complex serpentine routing.

Continuous motion

Eliminates dead zones at conveyor junctions, reducing product damage and inter-transfer maintenance.

Standard sprockets

Tooth profiles unchanged from base roller chain standard — no bespoke wheel geometries needed on straight-run sections.

How side bow chains achieve lateral flexibility

Option A — Conical pin

The pin tapers subtly within the bushing bore, permitting angular displacement in the horizontal plane. Cost-effective for moderate-speed, lighter-duty curved runs. Modest compromise in long-term pitch precision under sustained high-velocity cycles.

Option B — Loose cylindrical pin (preferred)

Deliberately loosened clearance between cylindrical pin and bushing. Superior fatigue resistance, more predictable elongation behaviour, and significantly longer service life — the preferred choice for sustained high-speed industrial duty.

Selection guide — four inputs required

Curve radius

Your tightest bend must be ≥ the chain’s R value. Tighter curves require a smaller R model.

Chain pitch

Must match existing or planned sprocket tooth spacing. Confirm ISO or ANSI standard.

Working load

Apply a minimum 5:1 safety factor against Q min for dynamic conveyor duty cycles.

Carbon steel for dry/lightly lubricated indoor use. Stainless 304/316 for washdown, food-contact, or high-humidity service.
