10B-G1 Rubber Top Roller Chain

The 10B-G1 rubber top chain is a type of roller chain used in power transmission applications. It features a rubber top on the chain links, which provides additional grip and reduces the risk of slippage. This type of rubber top chain is commonly used in applications where high friction is needed, such as conveying heavy loads, or in applications where a slip-free drive is required, such as in the food and beverage industry. The “10B” in the name refers to the rubber top chain size according to the British Standard, and “G1” refers to the type of attachment on the chain.

Product Overview

10B-G1 Rubber Top ChainThe 10B-G1 rubber top chain is a British Standard (BS) precision roller chain with a vulcanized rubber pad bonded to every outer link plate. 10B identifies the pitch series (15.875 mm, per ISO 606 / BS 228); G1 denotes a single rubber pad per link. A G1N variant carries double-width pads for higher lateral grip on inclined or high-speed conveyors.

The rubber pad sits proud of the outer link plates, contacting the product or surface being conveyed. Standard compound is oil-resistant NBR; food-grade polyurethane is available for beverage, dairy, and bakery lines. The steel chain body is precision-heat-treated — induction-hardened pins and bushings — meeting the same tensile and fatigue standards as a plain 10B-1 roller chain.

Manufactured by roller-chain-manufacturers.com to ISO 9001:2015. Dimensionally identical to ISO 606 10B-1: fits any standard 10B sprocket, no re-engineering required when upgrading from a plain roller chain.

Pad Style Selection: G1 vs G1N

G1 — Single Pad

Standard · Most common

  • 1 rubber pad per outer link
  • General conveying & packaging
  • Horizontal & low-angle runs
  • Lower chain weight
  • Standard 10B sprocket — no change

G1N — Double Pad

Enhanced grip · Heavy duty

  • 2 rubber pads per outer link
  • Inclined conveyors & heavy loads
  • Higher lateral product support
  • Better vibration damping
  • Standard 10B sprocket — no change

Key Technical Features

🔒

Slip-Free Grip

Vulcanized rubber pad delivers high friction against cartons, bottles, and components — eliminates product drift on inclines and high-speed lines.

🔇

Noise & Vibration Damping

Rubber absorbs sprocket engagement impact. Measurably lower dB output — critical in food production environments with operator noise limits.

⚙️

Extended Service Life

Rubber cushions shock loads, reducing fatigue on pins and bushings. Induction-hardened steel body resists roller–sprocket wear at the contact interface.

🔄

Drop-In Compatible

Identical bore and pitch to ISO 606 10B-1. Upgrade from plain roller chain to rubber-top with zero sprocket or frame modification.

🥛

Food-Grade Option

FDA / EU-compliant polyurethane pads for beverage, dairy, and bakery lines. Stainless steel chain body available for full wash-down duty.

📐

Custom Configurations

Every-link or every-other-link pad placement. Supplied in 5 m / 10 m rolls or cut-to-length. G1 style also available in 06B, 08B, 12B, 16B, 20B series.

Typical Applications

🍺 Food & Beverage

Bottle and can conveyors, pasteurizer lines, case packagers. Rubber protects labels and glass while maintaining positive drive.

📦 Packaging Machinery

Carton erectors, wrapping machines, palletizers — precise product pitch and slip-free indexing throughout the cycle.

🌾 Agriculture

Seed-treatment and grain-handling equipment. Cushioned contact surface prevents kernel damage during high-throughput conveying.

🖨️ Printing & Paper

Sheet-feeding systems. Rubber’s controlled friction coefficient handles paper stock reliably without marking or tearing.

📐 Inclined Conveyors

Belt-replacement or slat-conveyor applications on any angle where product back-slide is unacceptable under load.

🏭 General Industrial

Assembly lines, part washing, transfer conveyors. Quieter than steel-on-steel, reducing operator fatigue on long-run production.

Installation & Maintenance

1

Initial Tension

Set sag to 2 % of the span. Rubber-top chains run on the tight strand — over-tensioning accelerates pad fatigue at the sprocket wrap point.

2

Lubrication Interval

Apply ISO VG 100 chain oil every 500 operating hours or monthly, whichever is sooner. Apply only to the roller/pin area — keep oil off the rubber pad surface, as petroleum compounds degrade NBR over time.

3

Rubber Pad Inspection

Replace the chain when pad height H has worn beyond 20 % of the original 17.0 mm (i.e., below 13.6 mm), or when cracking and delamination are visible on any pad.

4

Elongation Limit

Standard wear limit is 2 % elongation. At 15.875 mm pitch, a 10-link span measures 158.75 mm new; replace at 162.4 mm. Beyond this, sprocket tooth wear accelerates rapidly.

5

Connecting Links

Use the correct 10B spring-clip or cotter-pin connecting link. Do not substitute a push-fit link on drives where the chain reverses direction — link failure risk increases significantly.
