20A-G1 Rubber Top Roller Chain

The 20A-G1 rubber top chain is a type of conveyor chain that is commonly used in industrial applications. It is characterized by its rubber top surface, which provides a non-slip grip for the products being transported on the chain. The “20A” in the name refers to the chain’s pitch of 20 millimeters, while the “G1” indicates that it has a single row of rollers. Rubber top chains are commonly used in applications where products need to be transported up an incline or on an angle, as the rubber top surface helps prevent product slippage. They are used in a variety of industries, including food processing, packaging, and manufacturing.

What Is a 20A-G1 Rubber Top Roller Chain?

A rubber top roller chain is a standard precision roller chain with vulcanised rubber pads bonded onto the outer link plates. The 20A-G1 follows ANSI/ISO designation conventions: 20A indicates a pitch of 31.75 mm (equivalent to the ANSI #100 series), and G1 denotes a single-strand (simplex) configuration. The rubber overlay converts an ordinary drive chain into a conveyor element that grips, transports, and positions workpieces without slippage — even on inclines up to 30–40°, depending on compound hardness and load.

Chain plates and rollers are manufactured in alloy steel (45Mn, 42CrMo, 20CrMo) as standard, with stainless steel (SS304, SS316) available for food-grade or corrosive environments. All steel components undergo shot peening to introduce compressive residual stresses that extend fatigue life under cyclic conveyor loads.

The rubber pads are available in NBR (nitrile butadiene rubber — oil, grease, and mild chemical resistant) or NR (natural rubber — superior elasticity and surface protection, preferred in woodworking). Two hardness grades, Shore A 65–75 and 75–85, allow engineers to match grip level to product weight and conveyor speed.

Rubber Top Chain Sprockets and Rubber Top Chains

Key Performance Advantages

⛓️
Anti-Slip Grip on Inclines

Vulcanised rubber pads create reliable friction between chain and workpiece, holding boards, cartons, or bottles firmly on inclined conveyor sections where bare steel would allow slippage.

🔩
Superior Wear Resistance

Alloy steel components are shot-peened to ISO tolerances. The rubber compound resists abrasion from wood dust, packaging debris, and particulate ingress, protecting both the pad and the underlying plate.

💥
Shock & Vibration Absorption

The rubber layer damps impact energy between product and chain, preventing jostling on high-speed packaging lines and protecting delicate items such as glass containers and electronics enclosures.

🔇
Reduced Operating Noise

Rubber pads absorb impact noise at the product contact point and attenuate chain-to-guide-rail impact — important in food-grade facilities and automated warehouses where operators work near conveyor lines all shift.

🛠️
Low Maintenance

Lubrication intervals match standard roller chain schedules. Individual links are replaceable without removing the entire run — no need for full belt changeouts or complicated tension re-calibration.

Matching Sprockets

Drive Sprockets

Hardened C45 steel, induction-hardened tooth flanks. Tooth gap sized for 19.05 mm roller; 31.75 mm pitch spacing. Recommended for runs exceeding 500 hours/year.

Idler Sprockets

Plastic or cast iron acceptable at low-load idler positions, further reducing noise and cost. Always verify pitch match — mismatched sprockets accelerate wear and risk tearing rubber pads.
