16A-G1 Rubber Top Roller Chain

The 16A-G1 rubber top chain is a type of roller chain that has rubber pads on the top of the links. This makes it a good choice for applications where noise and vibration need to be minimized, such as in the wood industry, glass, ceramics, and synthetic panels industries. The 16A-G1 rubber top chain is a G1-type chain, which means that it has a solid roller design. This makes it a strong and durable chain that can withstand heavy loads. The chain is also heat-treated, which further increases its strength and durability. The rubber pads on the top of the links help to absorb noise and vibration. This makes the rubber top chain quieter and reduces the amount of wear and tear on the sprockets.

16A-G1 Rubber Top Chain Roller ChainThe 16A-G1 Rubber Top Chain is a heavy-duty roller chain built to ISO 606 / ANSI B29.1 / DIN 8187 standards, with a 25.4 mm pitch and a vulcanised rubber pad bonded to the top face of every outer link. It is the standard conveying chain in wood-product processing, plywood manufacturing, glass fabrication, ceramic tile lines, and composite-board handling — any application where surface marking must be avoided and line noise is a concern.

The G1 designation means a solid, one-piece roller — not a bushed-and-roller assembly. The roller is machined from alloy steel, case-hardened, ground, and heat-tempered. Inner and outer plates are precision-punched from 45Mn or 42CrMo alloy steel, shot-peened to relieve surface stress, and heat-treated for fatigue resistance. The result is a chain that resists elongation under sustained load and maintains accurate pitch over long service intervals.

The rubber pad — available in Natural Rubber (NR) or Nitrile Rubber (NBR), Shore A 65–75 or 75–85 — is chemically bonded to the outer plate during vulcanisation, not mechanically clipped on. This bonding method prevents pad loss under vibration or shock and maintains contact surface integrity throughout the chain’s service life. NBR compound resists oil, fuel splash, and temperatures up to 100 °C; NR compound maximises grip and cushioning on dry, ambient-temperature lines.

Key Features

G1 Solid Roller
One-piece construction eliminates the bushing-to-roller interface, maximising strength and reducing wear initiation points for longer service intervals.
🔥
Heat-Treated Components
Plates, pins, and rollers are case-hardened, ground, and tempered for superior fatigue and impact resistance under continuous-duty loading.
🔄
Vulcanised Rubber Bond
Pads are chemically bonded during vulcanisation — not clipped on — preventing delamination under shock loads and maintaining surface contact integrity.
🔊
Noise & Vibration Damping
Elastomeric pads absorb impact energy, reducing airborne contact noise by 6–10 dB versus bare steel roller chains in the same installation.
🛡
Surface Protection
Rubber top eliminates direct metal-to-product contact, preventing marks and scratches on glass panes, lacquered panels, and ceramic tiles.
Contamination Barrier
Closed-cell rubber surface reduces ingress of dust, chips, and fine particles into the pin-and-bush interface, extending lubrication intervals.

■ NBR Compound
  • Resists oil mist, fuel splash, lubricant contact
  • Operating temperature up to 100 °C
  • Ideal for machine shops, press lines, oily conveyors
■ NR Compound
  • Maximum grip and impact cushioning
  • Dry, ambient-temperature environments
  • Ideal for wood, glass, ceramic, and tile lines

16A-G1 vs 12B-G1 — Which Chain to Choose?

Both chains feature a G1 solid roller and bonded rubber top pad. The difference is pitch: the 16A-G1 uses 25.4 mm pitch for higher load capacity and larger sprockets, while the 12B-G1 uses 19.05 mm pitch for compact, lighter-load installations.

Feature 16A-G1 ▲ 12B-G1
Pitch 25.4 mm 19.05 mm
Tensile Strength 42.0 kN / 9,545 lbf 28.9 kN / 6,500 lbf
Load Capacity Higher Lower
Weight 3.97 kg/m Lighter
Compactness Standard More compact
Best For High-load, heavy-duty lines Space-limited / lighter loads
