Features of Anti-Sidebow Chains
One of the most important characteristics of the anti-sideways bending chain is its rotational capability. When positioned correctly, the chain can bend sideways. Therefore, the chain consists of two independent parts: inner chain plates and outer chain links. The latter two components are made of plastic material. The pivot pin 7 and bolt 6 are made of steel. Grooves on the inner chain plates allow the aligning protrusions to further pivot into this area.
The chain links are connected to each other by hinges. The hinges are designed to rotate around a first and a second axis. The hinges consist of pivot bolts or pins connected to the outer chain links. The inner chain links are connected to the outer chain links through lateral pivot holes, which are defined by separate support plates. The dimensions of the hinges allow the chain plates to pivot between the inner and outer chain links. This feature helps to counteract sideways bending.
Another characteristic of the anti-sideways bending chain is the extra clearance left between the pins and bushings. This chain is designed for bending with a minimum radius of 250 mm. It can be equipped with all common roller chain attachments, such as sprockets. However, the load-bearing area of the anti-sideways bending chain is limited. Therefore, compared to similar roller chains, they are only suitable for lower load levels.
