What Are Side Bow Chains?
Side bow chains are a precision-engineered variant of roller chain designed to flex laterally through curved conveyor paths — without binding, seizing, or inducing accelerated wear on pins, bushings, or link plates. Standard roller chains operate in a single plane; side bow chains introduce deliberate, controlled clearance between pin and bushing, combined with calibrated play in the link plate assembly, so the chain can continuously articulate sideways as well as in the running direction.
Select designs incorporate conical or bi-conical pin profiles that distribute bending stress evenly through tight-radius transitions, extending service life in demanding curves. The result: a conveying medium that negotiates horizontal arcs as smoothly as a conventional roller chain moves in a straight line.
Lateral Flex
Engineered pin-to-bushing clearance enables smooth side-flex through radius curves from 300 mm upwards — no binding, no plate fracture.
ISO / ANSI Compatible
Dimensional compliance with ISO 606 and ANSI B29.1 means SB chains run on standard roller chain sprockets — no custom tooth form required.
Dual Material
Carbon steel for general-duty economy; AISI 304 or 316 stainless for washdown, food-grade, or chemically aggressive environments.

Attachment Configurations
Attachments transform the base side bow chain into a purpose-built conveying medium. Conical pin profiles and bi-conical bushing designs in select models ensure the chain’s lateral articulation remains fully intact after attachment fitting — unlike rigid-link chains where attachments compound side-load stress.
Extended Pins (K / M Style)
Accept K-style or M-style lugs for direct payload securement; available as one-side or two-side extended variants.
Bent Tab Attachments
Simple bent plates welded or riveted to outer link plates for product guiding, retaining, or positioning on curved paths.
Flat Carrier Plates
Engineered polymer or stainless slat carriers bolt onto the chain to form a smooth, continuous conveying surface for fragile products.
Conveyor Flights
Upright cleats for bulk material handling on inclined or curved paths; custom flight heights and spacings available to specification.
Compatibiliteit van tandwielen
SB series chains conform dimensionally to ISO 606 and ANSI B29.1, meshing with standard rollenketting sprockets without tooth modification. The lateral-articulation engineering is internal to the chain; the sprocket interface is unchanged. Key considerations:
- BORE
Bore diameter must align precisely with the drive shaft — keyed, splined, or taper-lock mounting ensures concentricity and torque transfer without slippage. - IDLER
Idler sprockets with integral ball bearings reduce frictional drag on return strands, extending system life in high-cycle applications. - TOOTH
Wide-tooth designs accommodate heavy attachments; narrow-tooth variants suit compact, high-speed drives. Pitch and roller diameter are the primary selection parameters.
