The ALT series covers three pitch sizes — 16ALT (25.40 mm pitch), 20ALT (31.75 mm pitch), and 24ALT (38.10 mm pitch) — each available in simplex (-1), duplex (-2), and where specified, triplex (-3) strand configurations. How to Read the ALT Series Code

The prefix number is the pitch in sixteenths of an inch: 16 = 1″ (25.40 mm)  ·  20 = 1¼″ (31.75 mm)  ·  24 = 1½″ (38.10 mm). The suffix -1 / -2 / -3 is the strand count. A duplex chain of the same pitch approximately doubles both pin length and rated tensile strength versus the simplex variant — strand count is the primary lever for scaling load capacity without changing pitch.

Where a parking chain barrier is driven by a motorized lifting unit, correct sprocket selection is as critical as chain selection. The sprocket pitch diameter must correspond exactly to the chain pitch — 25.40 mm for 16ALT, 31.75 mm for 20ALT, 38.10 mm for 24ALT. Tooth count determines wrap angle and lifting speed; higher tooth counts deliver smoother engagement at the cost of a larger sprocket body.

For duplex or triplex chains, verify that the sprocket face width matches the combined strand width — a mismatch in face width is the most common cause of uneven roller loading and accelerated tooth wear. Split-hub sprockets allow lateral removal without disconnecting the chain run, which simplifies maintenance in confined barrier housings.

Installation & Maintenance

Tensioning

Tension the chain to eliminate sag without placing residual load on anchor posts at rest. A correctly tensioned chain deflects approximately 2–4% of span under light lateral hand pressure. Over-tensioning accelerates pin and bushing wear; under-tensioning causes chain-to-ground slap and link fatigue.

Lubrificação

Static barrier chains: annual wipe-down with penetrating chain oil is sufficient. For chains running over driven sprockets: lubricate every 200–500 operating hours depending on ambient dust and moisture levels — same interval as the equivalent corrente de rolos application.

Inspection Checklist
