Description

20B-G1 Rubber Top Chain / Rubber Top Roller Chain

Chaîne à rouleaux supérieure en caoutchouc 20B-G1The 20B-G1 Rubber Top Chain is a conveyor-grade roller chain with a vulcanized rubber pad bonded to each link plate. It conforms to ISO 606 / DIN 8187 standards for the 20B series, with a 31.75 mm (1-1/4 inch) pitch and a single-strand (G1) row of 19.05 mm diameter rollers. The rubber top surface grips conveyed products firmly, eliminating slippage on inclined runs and protecting sensitive workpiece surfaces from metal contact marks.

This chain is widely used in food processing lines, packaging machinery, woodworking conveyor systems, glass-sheet transfer tables, and plywood production plants — anywhere a non-marring, slip-resistant conveying surface is required. The rubber pad is available in NBR (nitrile butadiene rubber, oil-resistant) or NR (natural rubber, high-grip), with Shore hardness options of 65–75 or 75–85 depending on load and surface requirements.

Key Features of the 20B-G1 Rubber Top Chain

  1. Non-marring rubber surface. The vulcanized rubber pad provides a soft, scratch-free contact face. Finished wood panels, float glass, laminate boards, and polished metal parts pass through without surface damage — critical in woodworking lines and glass-transfer applications.
  2. High anti-slip grip. The rubber compound maintains firm contact with the conveyed load, preventing product shift on inclined or declining conveyor runs up to approximately 30°. This eliminates the need for additional hold-down guides in many layouts.
  3. Heat-treated alloy steel chain body. All inner plates, outer plates, rollers, and pins are manufactured from heat-treated alloy steel with hardness controlled to tight tolerances. The minimum tensile strength of 85.0 kN (19,318 lbf) matches the standard ISO 20B specification.
  4. Dual rubber compound options. NBR (nitrile butadiene rubber) is chosen for environments with oil mist or lubricant exposure. NR (natural rubber) delivers higher surface grip for dry-product conveying. Shore hardness is specified at the order stage — 65–75 for moderate-load applications, 75–85 for heavy-load or high-speed runs.
  5. Compatible with standard 20B sprockets. The chain runs on any ISO-compliant 20B sprocket. Rubber-coated sprockets (polyurethane or rubber insert type) are recommended to further reduce noise and vibration and extend pad life.
  6. Custom pad geometry and attachment options. Pad width, length, and height can be modified to customer drawings. Attachment plates (K1, K2, extended inner plates) can be incorporated at specified pitches for pusher or carrier fixtures.

Applications typiques

Woodworking & Panel Conveyors

Transporting planed timber, MDF, particleboard, and veneer sheets between saws, planers, and finishing stations without scratching the surface.

Glass & Ceramic Transfer Lines

Carrying float glass sheets, ceramic tiles, and architectural panels where any metal-to-surface contact would cause unacceptable chips or cracks.

Machines d'emballage

Infeed and outfeed sections of cartoning machines, case sealers, and shrink-wrap tunnels where products must be positioned accurately without slipping.

Food Processing Lines

Conveying packaged goods, trays, and containers on lines where grip and hygiene matter. NBR compound is selected for resistance to food-grade oils and cleaning agents.

Plywood & Laminate Plants

Moving glued laminate panels and plywood boards through press lines, edge-trimmers, and stacking stations without surface indentation.

Machining & Grinding Lines

Transporting ground or polished metal parts between stations where rubber contact prevents micro-scratches that would be visible on finished surfaces.

Rubber Compound Selection Guide

Rubber Type Shore Hardness Recommended Environment Max. Continuous Temp.
NBR 65–75 or 75–85 Oil mist, lubricant exposure, food-grade oils, coolants +100 °C
NR 65–75 or 75–85 Dry product conveying, maximum surface grip, general purpose +80 °C

Matching Sprockets for 20B-G1 Rubber Top Chain

Standard ISO 20B sprockets (31.75 mm pitch, 19.05 mm roller seating diameter) fit this chain directly. For noise-sensitive or vibration-critical installations, rubber-insert or polyurethane-coated sprockets are recommended. The elastic material between the tooth and the roller absorbs impact at engagement, reducing peak stress on both the rubber pad and the chain joints.

  • Reduced wear: Rubber sprocket inserts cushion engagement shock and extend both chain and sprocket service life.
  • Lower noise: Suitable for food plants, packaging halls, and other acoustically controlled environments.
  • Non-marring engagement: Eliminates hard metal-to-roller contact at the tooth root, consistent with the non-marking function of the rubber top pad.
  • Standard bore and keyway machining: Available in any tooth count from 9T to 76T with pilot bore or finished bore to customer specification.

Installation & Maintenance Notes

Rubber top chains require less lubrication than standard roller chains because the rubber pad contacts the product, not the chain body. However, the pin-bush joint and roller still require periodic lubrication with a light mineral oil or chain-specific lubricant applied to the inner link area. Avoid spraying lubricant onto the rubber surface — oil contamination degrades NR pads and reduces grip on NBR pads.

Check initial sag and re-tension after the first 8–10 hours of operation under load, as new chains settle during run-in. Replace the chain when elongation reaches 2% of nominal pitch length (for a 20B chain: original pitch 31.75 mm → replace when measured pitch-per-link exceeds 32.38 mm over a 10-link span).

Inspect rubber pads monthly for cracking, delamination, or compression set. Replace worn pads before they cause surface-quality problems on the conveyed product. We supply replacement rubber pad inserts and connecting links as spare parts.
